2017 Project M Schlussel Riesling

Floral honeysuckle and jasmine notes slowly rise from the glass followed by wafts of fresh cut green melon, peach and dried grass. The wine’s concentration is juxtaposed by weightlessness that together gently embrace the tongue. Still firm white peaches and Satsuma like citrus span a spectrum from fresh to marmalade. They are made complex by a whisper of anise-scented tarragon or chervil. Buried deep is a thin vein of lees aged sourdough and reduction. The sweetness suggested by the fruit is precisely balanced by the gently whisking acidity. The transition from fruity middle to dry, persistent finish is as seamless as the wandering thoughts of a daydream.

2018 Project M Anicca Chardonnay

The glass is immediately filled with aromas of barley straw and vanilla, slowly complimented by lemon curd, lime zest and a peculiar hint of mint. The wine enters with a medium body stretched over a frame of brisk acidity. The mid-palate is a clean steely core of citrus-like acidity with delicate, if not fragile, flavors of yellow apple and not quite ripe honeydew melon. These clear fruits are lightly, and pleasantly, sullied by hints of spicy oak, caramel, bread crust and lees. The wines dimensions favor length over width; the finish is fresh, clean and gently persistent.

2018 Project M Personify Pinot Noir

The nose is dominated by earthy aromas of dried earth with wisps of smoked paprika and black cherry. Delicate hints of clove, dried lavender interject themselves randomly. On the palate, the entry is a plush sheet of silky black fruit. A soft richness obscures an intricate tannic structure. On the mid palate the fruits continue to be black and are augmented by the same earthy profile expressed in the nose. Swirled in these are faint flavors reminiscent of light roast coffee, soy sauce, cassis. They contribute to a dark, brooding complexity. The wine’s density, structure and flavor profile indicate a warm vintage restrained by meticulous extraction and thoughtful cooperage. Pair with grilled Iowa cut pork chops or seared duck breast

2019 Project M Acclara Sparkling Rose

The dominant impression of this wine is the acid-driven structure and its resulting length.  Picking the vineyard as a field blend, with varying ripeness levels results in a range of cherry tones; from tart red to sweet black.  The mid-palate is an unobstructed window of fruit and earth.  The wines linear focus continues into the long, persistent finish.

2019 Project M Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir

The 2019 Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir displays aromas of red plum, exotic woods, smoke and brown spices. It enters the mouth with a plush richness like a fine satin cloth. Despite its density, it remains buoyant as it moves across the palate. The flavors are dark red and blue fruits: Santa Rosa Plum, ripe Blueberry and Marionberry. These are streaked with flavors of dusty earth, smoke and spicy oak. It shows the youthful character of being more broad than long but the fruit-focused finish promises to lengthen as the wine matures.
